Software Development Kit:

The SDK documentation is made available under our standard license terms and covers the binary version of the firmware. This documentation pack is the for the standard (non SE) Plogg only and includes:

DLL Library

The Plogg DLL library is intended to be used to interface to applications written in C++, Visual Basic and C#, this has been tested using Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

The library can be used in the format of the pre-built DLL, alternatively the full source code is supplied for customers who wish to modify, use or integrate the Plogg into their own application code. The library has been tested using Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

DLL Source code

The Plogg DLL comes with full source code, this can be modified or serve as a basis for your own application.

The source code has been tested on Windows XP/Vista and Visual Studio 2005.

Low Level Binary Protocol

The Plogg firmware is based on code supplied by Teridian and detailed in their software users guide.

The documentation does not cover legacy commands that do not use the binary protocol (such as calibration) other than to show which commands remain supported. For more details on these commands see the Teridian software users guide.

Most importantly the Binary Protocol document details the format of commands that can be sent to the Plogg and the responses that will be returned.

SDK Licence

The SDK licence is available here

The Plogg devices can be used for single phase and split 2-phase appliances.

In the standard format the Plogg is designed for use with mains socket appliances. For larger machines that are hard wired then the external CT format Plogg is available to monitor loads of up to 100A. For the North American market the external 2CT version is available for split 2-phase loads of up to 200A per phase.

PNC (Plogg Network Controller)

The PNC Gateway is a hardware development platform that allows software engineers to develop their own customised ZigBee SE solution or to explore network performance over large mesh networks operating under ZigBee SE.

The PNC uses an Ember EM357 with an Atmel AVR co-processor to manage the Zigbee Pro stack and to host the ZigBee SE cluster libraries. A Windows CE 6.0 module hosts the web server and database management firmware.

The AVR controller is coupled to the ZigBee device and acts as a network co-processor handling all the ZigBee logic. The Windows CE module is connected via an internal serial line to the AVR, and by extension the incumbent ZigBee radio.

The user interface is provided by Windows CE web services and dynamic (ASP) pages are supported as standard via a supplied ActiveX component. By using the supplied ActiveX component, developers can use familiar programming concepts and skills without needing to delve into the complexities of the ZigBee stack as the ZigBee functionality is fully exposed by the ActiveX component.

Please call us to discuss any requirements you have. We are happy to consider custom firmware where this is aligned with our general development path.

Examples

Event driven data logging instead of time dependent logging

MV90 data export from the PNC

SE Plogg firmware with no ECC and no link key

SE Plogg firmware with your own link key

PloggSE Features:

The PloggSE supports both Meter and Demand Response Load Controller end device attributes under ZigBeeSE 1.0 protocol.

PloggSE with ECC operates only within a Smart Energy compliant mesh network and as such requires the presence of an Energy Service Portal (ESP) to coordinate the network, retrieve data from and issue commands to the PloggSE devices.

The PloggSE is compatible with third party mesh networks operating under SE Protocol and where a ZigBee ESP is used to control the network.

The PloggSE does not operate with standard Ploggs, EAPs and USB devices, which operate under a different ZigBee protocol using Ember ZNet2.5

The Plogg SDK cannot normally be used with the PloggSE
